New MG Sub-4m Electric Car Patented – A Competitor to the Nexon EV

JSW MG Motor India plans to launch a new electric car every three to six months to achieve what Sajjan Jindal, MD of JSW Steel, calls “The Maruti Moment.” The company has patented a new EV in India called the BinguoEV.

In December 2023, the BinguoEV was launched in Indonesia by the SAIC GM Wuling conglomerate. This car could soon be available in India to compete with models like the Tata Nexon EV, Citroen eC3, and Mahindra XUV400.

    Dimensions and Design

The upcoming MG BinguoEV is 3,950 mm long, 1,708 mm wide, and 1,580 mm tall, with a 2,560 mm wheelbase and a large 790L boot space. It’s built on the SGMW Global Small Electric Vehicle platform and shares some interior features with the MG Comet EV.

The BinguoEV has a cute and curvy design similar to the new Fiat 500. It features X-shaped LED headlights, unique wheel caps on 15-inch wheels, a dual-tone floating roof, and X-shaped LED tail lights. It also has disc brakes on all four wheels. The color options include Milk Tea, Mousse Green, and Galaxy Blue. The interior has dual screens, a steering wheel like the Comet EV, leatherette cladding, stitching on the dashboard and door panels, and shiny metallic materials.

    Specs and Range

In Indonesia, the Wuling BinguoEV offers two power options: a 31.9 kWh battery with a 41 bhp motor and a 333 km range, or a 37.9 kWh battery with a 68 bhp motor and a 410 km range. Unlike the MG Comet, the BinguoEV supports DC charging, with a charging port on the front right fender. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, a free 7kW charger, and some free accessories in Indonesia.

JSW MG Motor India aims to position the BinguoEV above the Comet EV as a practical 5-door electric hatchback, smaller than their upcoming Cloud EV. It is expected to be a competitive product if priced correctly. Given MG’s history of reasonable pricing in India, it might be cheaper than the Nexon EV.

In India, SAIC GM Wuling vehicles will be launched under the MG brand. Following JSW MG Motor India’s ambitious plans, the BinguoEV might launch in India by 2025. In Indonesia, the BinguoEV is priced between IDR 317 million and IDR 372 million, which is about Rs. 16.27 lakh to Rs. 19.09 lakh based on current exchange rates.
